The Law of the Prince Charming (The Storyteller #1)
Once upon a time there was a prince. She was a girl.
Summary: Tabitha is a prince in a world where the laws of magic force people to play out roles of fairy tales. This is what creates the magic that helps to keep the world stable. Tabitha joins two Storytellers, whose job it is to protect the tales, as she searches for her own quest to complete. But will the tales force her into the role of a Prince Charming?
Background: I’ve always wanted to do a fairy tale story where the characters are genre savvy (ie they know the fairy tales are stories and respond accordingly). I played around with this idea for a number of years before reading the fairy tale: The Little Wildrose. The rest is history. I also have draft 0 for the other two books in the trilogy, The Law of the Demon King, and The Law of the True Name.
Search terms: bishounen, city of magic, faerie, fairy tales, gender roles, knight in shining armor, loyalty, magic, magical creatures, meta, tropes, true name
Blessings of the Neriel
A little faith never hurt anyone, but it’s about to start.
Eira is a Sinner, shunned by the village, because she carries the evil neriel’s Light within her. When the intruder offers her a way to escape, she takes it, and soon finds out that the neriel beneath her village is not the only one in the world. She arrives in a city whose residents worship their neriel as a benevolent god, where those who carry the Light are Blessed and revered.
As Eira learns to navigate a bustling, functional, perfect city, she struggles with her sudden fame, her violent tendencies, and the public incidents surrounding her arrival. She must find out whether the neriels and their Blessed are good or evil before her own neriel breaks free to destroy the world again–because she’s afraid she might agree with it.
Background: Started on the image of a huge bird breaking out from underneath a city, this story ended up carrying a lot of my emotions from the pandemic and how the way I see the world and the people in it shifted during this time. It’s not a dark story by any means, but it’s darker than my usual fare.
